Adam and Paul waiting to go on air

Rehabilitated

May 9, 2010

Just got back from the BRMB studio after a super evening with Tim Shaw, Freddie from Big Brother and the burlesque girls Heresy and Heels… and of course Donkhole.

Tim got us to serenade the restaurant goers at Around the World in 80 Dishes in an effort to prove that the art of busking isn’t dead. Thanks to Freddie Fisher’s unmatched lyricism ‘I Just Wanna Eat Your Heart’ was an instant hit and much food was our reward.

We also played Teeth Marks, Knocking on the Ground and were inspired by Donkhole’s lyrics to pen a jazz lounge progressive Howard Moon-style chill out anthem ‘Born to Die’, which we gently strummed while the girls and Freddie delicately swung their nipple tassles.

Now we’re having a cold beer and kicking back. For anyone visiting after the show, you can download our EP from http://distantsignal.bandcamp.com/

Adam, Paul and I will be on Tim Shaw’s Rehab BRMB 96.4 fm tonight between 10pm and 1am. You can listen online at http://www.brmb.co.uk/home.asp. It will also be available on digital radio outside the West Mids, we think.

We had an acoustic practice last night round Ad’s for a couple of hours which went really well. We settled on the following songs:

  1. Teeth Marks
  2. Knocking on the Ground
  3. Mexico

And practised a couple more for fun.

The show will be broadcast live, with us popping in every now and then for a chat and to fire out an acoustic number.

Adam and I tried using Skype for a long-distance jam on Friday. Once we turned off the video the call quality was good enough to see how things might sound for acoustic set this Saturday. Unfortunately there was a bit of latency which meant one of us would count in ’1-2-3-4′ and then wait ’5-6′ for the other to get to four. Let’s say it was an exercise in playing very creatively behind the beat.

We did manage to run through some numbers and work out what we might play on Tim Shaw’s Rehab. We did:

Air in the radio
Knockin’ on the ground
Teeth marks

Had a bash at bathtub and knee deep in the dead, and I played a new song ‘A thousand mistakes’, and mooted a cover of CCR’s Bad Moon Rising for some point down the road.

If any one knows of a better program for online jamming, please give us a shout.

We’ll be on Tim Shaw’s Rehab (96.4 fm BRMB) on Saturday the 8th May from 10pm until 1am.

Nukulele

April 20, 2010

Adam, Paul and Dangerous DH came down for a pre-radio session practice and some poker. Ultimately, instead of that we decided to have an improvised surf-guitar and blues jam complete with ukulele, leis and about 10,000 units of alcohol.

Hola Signalers,

We’ll be on Tim Shaw’s Rehab (www.timshaw.co.uk) on Saturday the 8th of May. Not sure whether it will be a live broadcast or canned, but the show airs between 10pm and 1pm on BRMB. If you’re outside the Midlands you can listen online at www.brmb.co.uk

We’re pretty excited about it. There’ll be an acoustic session and interview with Adam, Paul and myself. Watch this space for further details.
